Thoughts on studying and career in IT

In 2020, I somehow decided to change direction in IT and start learning Linux. In this post, I decided to talk about my educational path in life and express my thoughts and attitude towards the education system in the Russian Federation.

My attitude to learning now is that education in the Russian Federation is complete and useless game, especially in IT. I would have already finished school after the 5th grade and then I would independently choose what I want to do. Higher education and its demand everywhere, it's just disgusting.

There is a special category of people who are proud of their diplomas of the Russian Federation, I don’t understand this at all, especially since the universities of the Russian Federation are at the bottom of the world table in terms of the quality of education.

I believe that education should be for money, then the process becomes as efficient as possible - you are no longer a student, but a client and can demand high-quality performance of services. Also, ideally, training and immediately practice in real work, then knowledge does not lose strength and interest in learning is constantly growing.

A good option is to find such workshops like rebrain (which I am currently studying) or if funds allow, hire a mentor / mentor / guru and learn from him immediately individually or in a group of up to 5 people at least.

I have been studying on my own all my life, in 2007 I graduated from the Economic College near Moscow. I went there immediately after graduating from the 9th grade of school. In college, I finished 10th and 11th grade in one year and then spent 2 years sitting studying as an accountant.

I had to go to college, because in Russia, if you don’t go anywhere to study, then go straight to the army, but it took time to get over it (now this topic probably doesn’t work like that in a war, but then it was very important, they were taken to the army for 2 years).

After graduating from college, I put my diploma out of harm's way and went to a computer maintenance workshop at a training center. There I studied for 2 weeks for 8-9 hours a day, learned everything about the insides of computers, components and the basics of technical support. He was a good teacher, by the way, he worked in Baumanka itself, but because of the low salary, he worked part-time at the training center. A couple of days after the end of the workshop, I found a job where I immediately began to gain experience. Our class looked like this:

They took me right away, because. I was able to tell in detail after 2 weeks of study what and how it works and the desire to work was on the face. In addition, I had a good rest in the summer, nothing prevented me from calmly starting my career. I got a job in a huge business center with 3500 users, I would not have received such practice in any course, I didn’t succeed in many things, but I tried to remember everything and after half a year of work I already coped well with most tasks, and after 1.5 years I already understood that I'm bored there.

Then I also studied for 4 years at a fake university from 2008 to 2012, in order to acquire the so-called "higher education diploma", at that time they did not want to take on many jobs without it (even in 2021 I faced such a situation). It was also an absolutely useless occupation, I didn’t even go there, which was not required by the contract, and even if I wanted to, I couldn’t, because I worked a lot. It was only necessary to pay on time and not to forget to come at the end to "defend" the diploma that I bought at the same university.

This university no longer exists. A bright flashy design was visible throughout Moscow, they were called differently. I remember the names 1994.ru, Institute of Corporate Management, Institute of Psychology and other random mixes of names. While I was studying, my university even changed its name.

The entrance looked something like this, they also changed addresses quite often:

On the basis of a high school diploma, I even managed to enroll in 2012 for a second higher education, as an interpreter. Although I was already finishing English courses at that time, I read somewhere that they teach the language well and have a lot of practice.

In fact, it turned out that the vaunted MSLU is a hole. Disgusting attitude towards students and extremely expensive education. In general, they didn’t even teach much there, you had to do everything yourself, but they wanted a lot of money for it. Sometimes students were brought to tears, despite the fact that adults studied there. State University left in my memories disgust and contempt, from there I ran straight from the exam.

This is how the building on the outskirts of Moscow looked like, where you had to go 3-4 times a week late in the evening.

After that, for some time I stopped trying to get some kind of IT education, and the work went on as it should. I began to study technology and even passed a few Microsoft exams, it was popular back then. I also managed to go to courses on Cisco and Vmware.

At the end of 2020, after several unsuccessful attempts to find a remote job, I decided to change my specialization and move to Linux admins, signed up for a Rebrain workshop and started doing the basic part. Now I have already finished the advanced part, I will write a separate post about the final work.

In December 2020, I received a letter from the State Services, where it was proposed to get an IT profession, and even with a 50% discount.

I decided to take advantage of such a generous offer and signed up for the program. They didn’t care what diploma of higher education, no one was going to check it, it was enough to scan the main page and send it to the mail of the training center. After that, I was "enrolled" in a virtual university, so I entered the University at 20.35, they conducted training through the Netology website.

This is how my student account looked like:

At that time, I was already taking my main Rebrain workshop, so I closed the modules quickly and even had to wait for the thesis to start.

Thesis, but in fact just a task, I did quickly and got the last credit

As a result, by the summer of 2021, I finally received an IT education and a retraining diploma and closed this strange need for myself. Of course, I didn’t receive any bonuses from him, just to accept the fact that he exists and that’s it.

In the State Services, has a record that I am educated:

Of course, learning does not stop there, while you work in the IT field, you always have to study something. But I would advise you to avoid the classical way of studying in Russia, especially if you are not going to work in Russia.
