Final work on Linux advanced practicum
I have defended my project at the Linux Advanced practicum today.
I completed the Basic part in the spring of 2021 and received a certificate. At the same time, I started working on the Advanced part. I began this while I was still at Sabetta, where I was employed (I will write a separate post about this later).
In general, it has been a challenging year for me, which is why I had to interrupt my IELTS preparation in the summer of 2021 and later again when I had to leave Russia. To sum it up, here's how I approached the assignments. Overall, I spent around 7 months on the advanced section:
Some topics coincided well with my current work as a Linux administrator.
At the end of the practicum, there is a final project awaiting me. It is similar to a diploma project, where I need to create a project based on a given description, set it up, ensure everything is functioning properly, and then present it to my Rebrain mentor via Skype.
For my project, I had to configure a cloud storage solution called NextCloud, similar to Dropbox/Yandex Disk/Google Drive.
Here is the schematic representation of my project:
Essentially, I deployed the application on the application server, set up the database on the database server, and configured a separate server for monitoring and storage.
In the screenshot, you can see the solutions used for monitoring, the database, and the storage.
The entire process took me five days, during which I took a leave from my job to focus on the setup. The implementation period provided was up to 14 days, and some people manage to combine it with their regular work.
The presentation lasted for an hour, during which I demonstrated the functioning of all four servers, executed the necessary test commands, and answered several theoretical questions. There was one question I couldn't answer. In the end, I received a score of 46 out of 50 and obtained the certificate. That marked the completion of the project.
